Talk about the working principle & effect of Reactor

  • December 02. 2021

Inductors, which also called reactors. In theory, all electrical conductors which can carry current are inductive, because once an electrical conductor is connected to the power, a magnetic field in a certain space it occupies will be created. As we know, while power supply long, or the electrical conductor's inductance is not large enough, the magnetic field is not strong enough. We called inductor which just wound into a solenoid as air-core reactor; and if insert an iron core into the solenoid, we call it iron core reactor. Reactance can be divided into inductive reactance and capacitive reactance.

In the past inductors are called reactors, thus the more reasonable classification is inductors and capacitive reactors are collectively called reactors. Reactor, and reactor refers specifically to inductor.

Adding a reactor to the output of inverter is workable, here let's talk about the working principle & effect:

1. The working principle

The reactor has the characteristic impedance function in power circuit. Usually use a hollow coil with no magnetic material.

A large short-circuit current would happen in the short-circuit fault occurs power system, in order to guarantee electrical equipment's dynamic stability & thermal stability, reactors air usually connected in series at the first isolation switch to expand the short-circuit impedance and limit the short circuit current.

2. The effect

The main effect is to balance outlet cable's distributed capacitive load & increase outlet cable main control loop's short-circuit impedance. In mean time, it can suppress the inverter harmonics output, reducing the inverter's noise.
